JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Mechanical Engineer is primarily responsible for the execution of the design and development of pneumatic and/or hydraulic brake components/assemblies, including brake control units, hydraulic units, Air Supply Units, brake discs, calipers, tread brakes, track brakes and controls for passenger rail transit vehicles.
The primary objectives of this position are to develop the braking components on-time, per the customer specification, and to release high quality, accurate technical documentation.
Mechanical Engineers are responsible for aspects of their assigned products, including design, generation of test procedures, troubleshooting test failures, and manufacturing, quality, and purchasing support.
Additional Essential Functions:
1.
Generate component and assembly designs based on customer and internal specifications
2.
Validating customer specifications and coordinating commentary with the departments
3.
Conducting the installation investigation of the brake units
4.
Creating 3D models of the brake units for the customers
5.
Create and maintain bill of materials
6.
Creating internal development orders (REDs)
7.
Assisting the new product development process by participating in design meetings
8.
Specifying and reaching agreement on the drafts of the installation investigations with the relevant series-production development departments
9.
Assisting the customer, sales and aftermarket with short-term enquiries
10.
Generate and validate Acceptance Test Procedures
11.
Development of purchase specifications/requirements
12.
Provide manufacturing, purchasing, and quality support
13.
Generate change documentation to update engineering documents
14.
Monitor/assure component designs are specification compliant
15.
Monitor and provide input to project schedules
16.
Support review of manuals for the Technical Publications Department
17.
Other responsibilities as defined by the Manager of Mechanical Engineering
