The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts; machined out of standard and exotic metals.
Primus works directly with all major aerospace manufacturers (e.
g.
, Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop) to provide components to mission critical civilian and defense programs.
Job Purpose
The Buyer will be responsible for the purchase of raw materials, hardware, supplies, and outside processing in a manufacturing environment.
The Buyer obtains the best quality, value and service for product and services through supplier management.
Success in the role includes a proactive approach to daily work along with strong communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Send requests for quote and analyze quotes for outside processes and raw material for current and prospective jobs with ability to negotiate price, lead time and expedites
Ensure all material is procured at the most cost effective price and will support delivery to production.
Must meet or beat budget requirements
Anticipate customer needs and expedite when needed
Accountable for communication of order commits and order status to the project management team; this includes part shortages and delays as well as capacity constraints
Schedule and source raw materials and hardware through qualified suppliers per customer requirements to meet production schedule
Generate PO’s for outside processes while anticipating lead time to support customer delivery
Issue change orders as needed for price variance and / or delivery date
Maintain contact with suppliers to confirm orders and ensure delivery as promised.
Expedite as needed.
Update system with accurate PO information (Price & Delivery)
Communicate to team via email and internal spreadsheets of any changes to supplier schedule
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and create good relations with suppliers
Assist and monitor in any return material authorizations back to suppliers
Request from the supplier updated paperwork and certs when needed
Requirements:
3-5 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required (aerospace/defense preferred).
Bachelors’ degree desired: supply chain, accounting, business, engineering or related.
Ability to interact well with internal and external customers.
Excellent communication skills; time management, sense of urgency, collaboration, accountability.
In-depth knowledge of ERP or MRP software preferred (Job Boss or Global Shop); expert Microsoft Suite Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point.
Experience with metals purchasing.
Ability to read drawings.
Must be able to obtain security clearance.
