POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the general direction of the Engineering Technical Leader, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for supporting and managing improvement projects and activities for process and packaging equipment involving programming, engineering, integration, and creation of related PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo controllers, robotics, vision systems, and industrial networking devices.
Additionally, this person will support the plant in day-to-day operations through assistance with equipment troubleshooting and participation in plant initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Self-direction of daily activities relating to small improvement projects, control system development, technical documentation, and plant support.
Monitor progress against objectives and schedules and develop measurement tools to track effectiveness of work completed.
Assist Electrical and Electronics Technicians and Process Controls Technicians with equipment and control systems troubleshooting as required.
Participation in the development of both long-range and short-range capital plans, ensuring an acceptable return on investment.
Development and execution of projects to deliver cost savings, improved productivity, business continuity, capacity/capability expansion, safety improvements, and quality improvements through the modification of existing equipment and components.
Maintain full responsibility for technical documentation of the electrical drawings, manuals and troubleshooting guides of the related projects.
Assist plant, headquarters and corporate departments in meeting their annual objectives.
Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Pillar team as assigned by the plant Steering Committee.
Ability to manage competing priorities and several initiatives at the same time.
Work flexible hours as required for project installation, commissioining, and start-up.
Other duties as assigned, relating to Electrical and Controls Engineering.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s, or higher, degree in Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
5-10 years of relevant production and/or engineering experience in a manufacturing plant.
Knowledge of industrial controls equipment, including PCs, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, field instrumentation, vision systems, and industrial communication devices/protocols.
Knowledge of process and/or packaging equipment.
Knowledge of manufacturing/production metrics such as OEE, DPM, etc.
Experience writing accurate technical documentation.
Experience working in a team environment.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance issues.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Up to 10% travel required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
5-10 years of relevant production and/or engineering experience in a manufacturing plant.
Experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
Experience leading teams.
Experience with TPM, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement system.
Experience with machine safe guarding according to ANSI/OHSA standards.
Experience writing training and troubleshooting documents then training others to these.
