Position Summary: JMT's Hunt Valley, MD office is seeking a Bridge Inspection and Remedial Design Engineer responsible for performing NBIS inspections of in-service transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and traffic device support structures.
The Team Leader will be required to perform all duties including coordination with Contractors, scheduling access equipment, preparing condition assessment reports, cost estimates for repairs, assist in the design of repairs, and development of plans and specifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform alternative studies
Perform design computations
Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
Develop construction cost estimates
Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Required Skills
Experience in serving as Team Leader performing in-service bridge safety inspections

Ability to write, speak, and communicate effectively
Required Experience
3-10 years of experience in performing in-service bridge safety and ancillary inspections - Compensation is commensurate with experience, education, and certifications
A qualified Bridge Inspection Team Leader candidate must, at a minimum meet one of the following conditions:
Be a registered Professional Engineer (P.
E.
) in a US State or Territory; or
Have five years of bridge safety inspection experience; or
Have all the following:
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology;
Successfully passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Fundamentals of Engineering examination (EIT);
Two years of bridge inspection experience; or
Have all of the following:
An associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology;
Four years of bridge inspection experience
Successfully completed FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection safety course meeting National Bridge Inspection Standards (23 CFR 650, Subpart C (FHWA-NHI-130055)
If FHWA-NHI-130055 was taken greater than five years ago, the candidate must have also completed FHWA-NHI-130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training
Hold an active, valid driver’s license
Preferred Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structures
Proof of successfully completing the NHI-FHWA course “Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges”
Proof of successfully completing the NHI-FHWA course “Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures”
Experience in performing load ratings using AASHTOWare BrR, LARS, BAR7, and/or LARSA
Experience in using asset management systems similar to Bentley AssetWise and MDTA-ASIR
Experience in structural design
Experience in MicroStation and AutoCAD

Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office (50% of the time) and in the field (50% of the time).
Field work will be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions and on uneven terrain or surfaces.
Candidate must have the ability to perform inspections while bending, kneeling, or standing, and lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
Work will require the operation of access equipment and performing inspections at heights requiring fall protection, and in confined spaces requiring confined space equipment.
Field work may require short duration out-of-town travel.
