JOB INTERVIEW AND HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION District 7- Carroll, Frederick, and Howard Counties Mechanic (Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Apprentice )Grade 8 (4812) SP#23-87-18 **Previous Applicants Need Not Reapply** THE RECONSIDERATION PERIOD FOR THIS RECRUITMENT IS THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS RECRUITMENT: The State Highway Administration (SHA) is recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Apprentice position in District 7.
This is an Interview and Hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below for this position.
Interviews will be held in Carroll County and the selected candidate may be selected to work in either Carroll, Frederick, or Howard County.
This announcement may also be used for future vacancies throughout the state of Maryland for SHA.

Nature of Work: This is an entry level of repair and routine maintenance on motor vehicles, diesel powered equipment and construction/maintenance equipment.
This position requires knowledge of basic principles of operation & construction of diesel and gas-powered engines; knowledge of proper use, care and maintenance of various standard hand tools; knowledge of repair and service concepts, principles, testing devices, tools, meters, etc.
involved in the repair and servicing of heavy road maintenance equipment.
This position will maintain records, prepare reports, and carry out instructions, communicate and work effectively with others.
The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Apprentice will also learn to operate heavy equipment in order to perform test drives.
Employees in this classification do not supervise.
Incumbents receive close supervision from Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor or another designated supervisor.

" EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None Notes: 1.
Applicants may substitute documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Armed Forces military service experience as described under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) may be substituted for two years of the required education.
(The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education Minimum Qualifications.

Certification as a Master Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Special Requirements: This is an essential position and employee must be available for 24-hour on- call with response time of less than one hour, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility.
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
In the event of hazardous weather or highway conditions, employees will be called to duty during off-hours in order to maintain and repair equipment.
Employees are required to work outdoor in all types of weather and may be exposed to extreme heat, fumes, exhaust, and hazardous materials.
On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds.
