Responsibilities: What you’ll be challenged to do: TranSystems located in Towson, Maryland is looking for a Construction Manager, Transportation to provide management of construction contracts including development and assignment of inspection staff, budget management and invoicing, coordination with JV partners and subconsultants and coordination with state and local government transportation agencies in Maryland.
Primary Responsibilities: Providing construction project management and inspection staff for MDOT assignments Monitoring of overall contract and specific task assignment budgets Overall knowledge of MDOT Standard Specifications interpretation, contract drawing interpretations, specific contract special provision interpretations, industry recognized construction inspector quality control inspection duties, and compliance with MDOT Construction Manuals Working with program managers from MDOT agencies including Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), State Highway Administration – Office of Construction (OOC) and Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS), and Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) on staff assignments and diversity of construction project availabiity Develop and expand construction management and inspection staff Monitor training and industry and agency recognized construction certifications of construction management and inspection staff Review and approval of construction management and inspection staff time sheets and expense reimbursement documents for contract compliance and monthly invoicing of expenses Lead and/or assist in the development of Task Proposals and Contract Proposals Knowledge of MDOT electronic project recordkeeping including MCMS, McMAN, eMCMS, and Projectwise Knowledge of contract bidding options including Design/Bid/Build, Design/Build and CMAR and construction management and inspection responsibilities of each Interaction with assigned staff on regular basis and communication with agency managers on staff performance, expansion of assignments and any other needs as required of the agency project/program managers Effective communication with agency managers on various methods of contract management relative to each agency Be eligible to use company provided vehicle for duties as needed across Maryland Qualifications: What you bring to our firm: High School Diploma or equivalent Fifteen (15) years’ experience in transportation construction industry including inspection and project management, ten (10) years of which were as Construction Manager and a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience as a construction project engineer/ construction inspector Maintain or eligible for industry relative certifications including NICET and CCM Maintain or eligible for MDOT certifications for construction managers and inspectors Some college education in Construction Practices and Management is a plus Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Office including Word and Excel Experienced working with MDOT agencies including Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), State Highway Administration – Office of Construction (OOC) and Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS), and Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) and be knowledgeable of their contract requirements Experienced working with local government agencies including Maryland Counties and Cities/Towns and knowledgeable of their contract requirements Must be able to review and understand Construction Management and Inspection contracts and included requirements for task assignments Must be able to read and understand contract drawings and inspection testing procedures for materials compliance Must be able to prepare task proposals, supplemental task proposals and establish task budgets in accordance with agency procurement requirements Must be experienced in task and contract budget management and agency methods for budget adjustments and invoicing requirements for multiple and concurrent contracts Must be able to manage project management and inspection staff and accessible to staff at designated assignments across Maryland on multiple and concurrent contracts Must be experienced in construction inspection duties on transportation projects including roadway construction and rehabilitation, bridge structure construction and rehabilitation, highway safety measures installations including signing, lighting, markings and traffic barrier installations, highway drainage systems and environmental management methods, underground utilities including water and sanitary sewer systems, and materials testing for specification compliance and progress payments Capable of working independently and problem solving to meet contract requirements Actively engages multiple perspectives when problem solving, seeks to learn from others and peers and encourages reciprocal learning among team members Actively advocates for full inclusion in the workplace, welcomes diversity and values equity for all employees, partners and clients Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions: Must be proficient and able to effectively communicate in English orally and in writing Must be able to work in outdoor environment as needed to interact with staff including availability day, nights and weekends as assignments dictate Able to drive vehicle on a daily basis Be of good health and able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds daily or
