Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP), a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for girls in grades 6-12 located in Towson, Maryland, seeks a full-time teacher in our English Department for the 2024-2025 school year.
This position will involve teaching sections of Middle Level and/or Upper Level English and may include courses in world literature, American literature, or British literature.
One of the sections may entail teaching in the Bette Ellis O’Conor Humanities Program.
The Bette Ellis O’Conor Humanities Program is a community of scholars at Notre Dame Preparatory School dedicated to intellectual pursuit that transcends the boundaries of usual study.
The program integrates curricula from across content areas, allowing students to study in a collegial and dynamic environment that elicits passion for ideas and learning.
Two teachers from separate departments, such as English and social studies, coteach the courses.
An exciting alternative course of study in which interdisciplinary connections and project-based learning are the goals, the Humanities Program allows students to explore the relationships between disciplines, particularly art, English, music, religion, and social studies.
Examining critical issues and ideas, the program encourages dialogue and diversity of perspective.
?Responsibilities:
Teach 5 out of 8 class periods each day.
Work collaboratively with members of the English department on developing/improving curriculum.
Participate in ongoing professional development.
Participate in the school community with other duties as assigned, such as advisory.
The ideal candidate will have
a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English, masters preferred
Maryland State Teacher Certification and demonstrated expertise in the teaching of literature and writing.
a passion for teaching English to middle school and/or high school students.
prior middle school or high school English teaching experience (preferred).
ability to integrate technology effectively into instruction.
