Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Middle School Guidance Counselor (part-time or full-time), serving Grades 5 through 8.
The Guidance Counselor will provide personal counseling for students experiencing behavioral or personal difficulties.
The Guidance Counselor will also support and assist with communication to students and families regarding social and emotional concerns.
Confidentiality and security of school records is required.
Responsibilities:
1.
Identify and support students in need of support, assess their level of need, refer to appropriate services and follow up to monitor response to interventions/services.
2.
Provide consultation and serve as a liaison between parents, guardians, faculty, and administrators about student mental health needs–including student return-to-school plans for mental health care absences.
3.
Serve as school liaison to outside service providers e.
g.
referrals to and communication with community resources (e.
g.
psychotherapists, counselors, psychiatrists, pediatricians and other medical/mental health specialists).
4.
Collaborate with the Middle School Principal and Lower School and High School Guidance Counselors to develop and implement parent education programs related to child development and social emotional well-being.
5.
Collaborate with the Middle School Principal and Lower School and High School Guidance Counselors to develop and provide professional development to faculty regarding student support within the school setting.
6.
Advise the Administrative Team on student needs in times of crisis as well as standards of practice in mental health support and crisis situations.
7.
Maintain a warm and inviting counseling office atmosphere.
8.
Maintain up to date knowledge of current best practices in school counseling, ethics, and Maryland specific legal obligations.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Secondary School Guidance and Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or Pastoral/Psychological
Counseling Certification in guidance and counseling at the secondary school level or comparable credential.
