The Lead Bakery Clerk provides outstanding customer service, greets customers in a polite manner and works efficiently to ensure accuracy during receipt and preparation of customers’ orders.
The Lead Bakery Clerk will
work with the team to ensure that bakery items are properly packaged, priced, and presented for customer purchase.
The Lead Bakery Clerk also provides guidance and direction to the Bakery Clerks in the absence of the Bakery Department Head or the Assistant Bakery Department Head.
The Lead Bakery Clerk helps coordinate team efforts with the Pastry Chef and the Bakery Production team.
*Responsibilities:*
· Emphasizes to all department staff that customer service is their primary responsibility,
· Coaches staff on methods and practices to provide service that exceeds customer expectations,
· Promotes food handling and hygiene standards and procedures for all department employees, including hair covering and glove use,
· Leads the daily operation of the bakery counter,
· Trains counter staff to carry out daily responsibilities according to their individual job assignments and department procedures,
· Promotes standard department procedures,
· Makes recommendations to the Bakery Department Head regarding ideas, suggestions, and recommendations to improve bakery operations and efficiency,
· Teaches all counter staff to correctly compute tare weight (including shrink factor where appropriate according to State Maryland Department of Weights and Measures) based on product wrap, bag, or box,
· Initiates interaction with customers by greeting customers and assistance as needed,
· Ensures customer satisfaction by following through on customer requests,
· Builds positive relationships with our customers,
· Manages product presentation,
· Takes and fills special orders for customers,
· Finishes products such as filling or icing doughnuts and pastries,
· Packages, labels, and prices products for check-out at the cash registers,
· Maintains and fills bakery trays, and display cases,
· Operates the scale and label printer,
· Handles customer inquiries,
· Maintains Eddie’s high standards for product freshness and sanitation,
· Manages bakery appearance by cleaning, facing, and/or organizing stock, wiping down counters and cases,
· Willing to learn how to use commercial ovens for baking,
· Works with the management team to help meet sales goals, promote upcoming events and holidays,
· Dynamically sell product by providing customers with information needed to make product-related decisions,
· Ensures that bakery staff complies with the company’s dress code,
· Assists with cleaning duties and product merchandising,
· Completes other duties as assigned by the Bakery Department Head, and
· Perform additional duties as required.
*Supervisory Responsibilities:*
· Provides general guidance, leadership, and training to Bakery Clerks.
*Qualifications:*
· Education, Certifications and/or Licenses:
· High school diploma or GED equivalent.
· Knowledge & Experience:
· Prior Bakery experience is highly desired, but not required.
· Knowledge of retail sales and safe food handling guidelines.
· Must possess excellent customer service skills.
· Possess a helpful, courteous approach to resolving customer concerns.
· Must be a result-oriented professional with excellent verbal/written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion.
· Ability to work a flexible work schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Must possess solid problem-solving skills
· Must be able to report on, maintain schedule and, upon request with advance notice, be able to work after regular schedule.
· Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines.
· Ability to dress in proper work attire according to the dress code.
· Ability to meet deadlines.
