➢ Read the Job Announcement carefully for specific filing instructions, supplemental questions, and final filing dates GRADE 12 LOCATION OF POSITION Office of the State Fire Marshal Headquarters 1201 Reisterstown Rd Pikesville, MD 21208 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of the job is to conduct record retention/destruction operations for the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
The position ensures the OSFM remains compliant with Maryland State statute related to the retention and management of public records.
This position will also establish a dedicated and centralized intake, analysis, and processing unit for all public information act requests within the OSFM.
The position also promotes transparency and excellent customer service.
POSITION DUTIES Reviews and develops record retention schedules Conducts video and audio editing for records released pursuant to PIA requests.
Conducts records retention, destruction and management training Assists with the administration of the centralized intake unit for PIA requests Assists in the planning and implementation of revised practices Provide assistance to higher-level administrators related to the preparation of their responses to PIA requests and responsibilities as the custodian of record MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
Notes: 1.
Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Professional experience composing business letters (be detailed) Professional experience responding processing public record requests for a local, state or federal agency Professional experience with record retention and/or destruction management at a local, state or federal agency LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Candidates must undergo a criminal background investigation before appointment can be made.
A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.
SELECTION PROCESS The selection process for this recruitment will involve a rating of the training and experience provided on the application.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, and QUALIFIED categories.
The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill this vacancy.
The list will be valid for one year.
EXAMINATION PROCESS The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.
